BC Agents & AI

AI in Business Central works on your data foundation, not in its place. It accelerates workflows whose basis is clean and rule-based. If this basis is missing, automation produces faster errors. The value comes from preparation, not from the feature itself.

What do AI and automation require?

AI and automation presuppose structure, and specifically the same structure a clean ERP needs anyway: clear master data, defined process steps, clean document flows. Microsoft frames the AI capabilities in Business Central accordingly, they work on the existing company data.

  • Realistic fields of use in BC: suggestions in document processing, anomaly detection in postings, assistance with recurring entries. Always as support, with control in human hands.
  • What is not realistic is the jump from unclean data to reliable automation. Without the foundation, the feature scales the error rather than the relief.

That sets the order: data foundation and process first, then feature. Whoever reverses it does not pay in licence cost but in loss of trust in the business.

Why does maturity come before features?

The right question is not which AI feature is available, but which of your processes is mature enough to carry support. Maturity here means something quite concrete: high volume, clear rules, few undocumented exceptions, well-kept master data.

  • No hype: AI replaces neither clean process design nor data maintenance. It lifts efficiency where the basis is right, and exposes weaknesses where it is missing.
  • The right question is not "which AI feature", but "which process is mature enough to support it". Maturity before function.
  • Control stays on your side: automation needs traceable rules and checkpoints.

If you want to know which of your processes is already mature enough for support today, we work that out together in a conversation. Usually there are two or three candidates, and that is where you sensibly begin.

AI works on your data foundation. It cannot substitute for it. The value comes from maturity and preparation, not from the feature.

Frequently asked questions

Briefly asked

Do we need a separate project for AI in BC?

No, but a mature data foundation and defined processes. Without them, every AI feature stays decoration.

Where do you sensibly start?

With a clearly defined, data-mature process with a high share of repetition. There the value is measurable and the risk small.

Which process should you automate first in Business Central?

The one with high volume, clear rules and a clean data basis, often document capture or invoice matching. Automating processes with many exceptions first produces serial errors instead of relief.

What are AI agents in Microsoft Business Central?

AI agents are autonomous functions that take over entire tasks, instead of only making suggestions. They read data, make rule-based decisions and carry out steps directly in the system.
